Here is yet another person claiming that it is simple to pick a lock with a homemade set. I am not saying it can’t be done, I know from experience it can. However, it is not nearly as easy as they would have you believe. After much practice you can learn how to pick the one lock you own, but throw a new different lock into the mix, and you are back to square.
Yes, a purchased lock picking kit takes some practice as well, but not nearly as much, and the skills transfer between the different locks. Go ahead and try to make your own to see if you have any interest in the hobby, but once you realize how fun it is, do yourself a favor and buy a real set.
By the way, the guy who made this video and added the written parts, did a laughable job. Watch it just for the laughs.
Another great how to video for lockpicking. Not only does it show you the practical side of picking the lock, but it also give you some internal illustrations of the actual picking of the lock. They do show you how to make a lock pick from a paperclip. I have tried over and over to pick the lock with a modified paperclip and never succeeded.
They do mention buying a lock picking set at a local hardware store. I have never noticed a lockpick set for sale in a hardware store. The internet has been the only place I have been able to find one. You can feel free to try to make your own pick, but if you have any amount of seriousness for this hobby, just spend a few bucks and buy a nice set.
